Nurlanbek Turgunbek uulu expressed gratitude to his colleagues for their trust and for electing him as Speaker during the first meeting of the new convocation.
In his address, he emphasized that he will strive to strengthen the role of parliament and its development in the country. The Speaker added that the legislative body should support the policy of President Sadyr Japarov while acting within the framework of the law.
“The Jogorku Kenesh is one of the most developed and democratic parliaments not only in Central Asia and the CIS but also in the world. It is important not only to maintain this status but also to strive for its improvement. All the powers of parliament are defined by the Constitution,” he noted.
Furthermore, Turgunbek uulu emphasized that freedom of speech in parliament should be combined with responsibility. “Every word and every criticism must imply an understanding of the responsibility that comes with it,” the Speaker added.
