According to him, the winter period is the most challenging time for this business, leading to an increase in the prices of the animals.
“I am a first-year student in Osh. I take the hamsters with me and keep them close. My sister also raises them. Many sellers refuse to sell hamsters in winter because it requires a lot of effort. During this time, the price of hamsters can reach 450–500 soms each. With the arrival of spring, summer, and autumn, they become cheaper as they grow quickly and breed actively,” Akmatjanov shared.
Ishak specified that they breed Syrian hamsters.
“These hamsters are relatively large, measuring about 15–18 centimeters in length. Syrian hamsters prefer solitude. They adapt more easily to humans and have a calmer temperament compared to other species. Their average lifespan is 3–5 years; with good care at home, they can live up to 4–5 years, while outdoors they only live 2–3 years. Hamsters can become great friends for children, helping them cope with loneliness,” he added.
Keeping hamsters at home is convenient, and compared to cats or dogs, the expenses for them are significantly lower. Despite the variety of colors, the cost of the animals does not depend on their color. Hamsters primarily eat special feed consisting of seeds, barley, and wheat, and can also receive small amounts of vegetables like carrots and cucumbers,” Ishak noted.
