- During the plenary session of the Jogorku Kenesh on February 11, 2026, Deputy Janar Akayev drew attention to the problem of the deteriorating condition of pastures, emphasizing that it is becoming increasingly serious.

He inquired about what measures the government is taking to protect the pastures.

The response to this question was given by the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Agriculture Bakyt Torobaev. He reported that there are 9 million hectares of pasture lands in Kyrgyzstan, but only 5 million hectares of them are considered effective.

According to him, the country has approximately 2 million head of cattle and about 6 million head of small livestock.

“Such a number of livestock creates a significant burden on the pastures,” he noted.

Torobaev also added that the annual revenue from the exploitation of pastures amounts to only 252 million soms, which is an extremely low amount, and these funds ultimately go to the local authorities' budget.

“We often hear that these funds are not used to improve the condition of the pastures. To change the situation, we plan to create a state enterprise ‘Kyrgyz Zhayit,’ which will unite all pastures and also carry out their regulation and monitoring,” he stated.

Currently, information from the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry of the Kyrgyz Republic was also considered regarding preparations for spring field and economic work in 2026.
