In the Chui region, preparations for the irrigation season of 2026 are actively underway. This was reported by the First Deputy Plenipotentiary Representative of the President in the region, Sanjar Zhantaev, during a board meeting dedicated to the socio-economic development of the region.

According to him, there are 269 reservoirs in the Chui region, with a total designed capacity of 253.145 million cubic meters. Currently, 168.81 million cubic meters of water have been accumulated. In 2026, it is planned to sow crops on an area of 418,764 hectares, of which 269,698 hectares are irrigated lands. It is expected that 850 million cubic meters of water will be used for irrigation, which is 36% higher than the figures for 2025.

For the repair and restoration of irrigation infrastructure facilities, 120 million soms have been allocated from the state budget. These funds will be directed towards the repair of 231.5 kilometers of canals, mechanical cleaning of 609 kilometers, restoration of 579 hydraulic structures, servicing of 516 water measurement stations, repair of one pumping station, and manual cleaning of 740 kilometers of inter-farm canals.

Zhantaev also noted that in 2025, drip and sprinkler irrigation systems covered more than 10,000 hectares, with 411 hectares installed by the state and 9,942 hectares by farmers. In preparing facilities for irrigation in 2026, 13 units of equipment from the Water Management Service and about 30 units from local aiyl administrations are planned to be involved.

As part of the "Chui Agro" program, 6 major projects and 9 activities aimed at ensuring irrigation have been developed. These include the inventory of existing systems, cleaning of canals using innovative polymers, ensuring water supply to agricultural lands, annulment of contracts with water users, organization of irrigation and soil loosening, as well as conducting explanatory activities with farmers and training in new water-saving technologies. The implementation of an electronic queue for irrigation and the construction of a daily regulating reservoir in the Issyk-Ata district are also planned.

According to Zhantaev, these measures are aimed at the efficient use of water resources and increasing crop yields in the region.
