How Kyrgyzstanis Can Maintain Mental Health – Psychiatrist's Advice

At a recent briefing, psychiatrist Boris Li from Family Medicine Center No. 6 shared recommendations for maintaining mental health and reducing the likelihood of developing mental disorders.
According to the specialist, not all aspects of a person's life are under their control. According to the biopsychosocial model, influencing biological factors without the help of medications prescribed by a doctor is impossible. Additionally, there are social conditions that are also difficult to change, such as income level, unemployment, and domestic violence, which can exacerbate existing mental issues, creating a vicious cycle.

Boris Li also noted that one step towards improving mental well-being could be reducing the time spent consuming negative information on social media. According to the World Health Organization, by 2025, such information may significantly contribute to the development of mental disorders, causing individuals to worry about events they cannot influence, including international politics.

The specialist highlighted the method of behavioral activation as useful in working on mental health. He emphasized that the assertion that simply being busy at work will help overcome depression is erroneous. Behavioral activation involves engaging in active activities, rekindling old hobbies, going for walks, and social interactions, which in turn can positively impact mental well-being.
