The United States Senate has approved the nomination of Jared Isaacman as the head of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). This was reported by Kazinform, citing the BBC.

During the voting, 67 senators supported the appointment, while 30 voted against.

Isaacman is the first NASA administrator without any political experience. He gained fame as an enthusiastic pilot and the first non-professional astronaut to conduct a spacewalk. According to Forbes magazine, his net worth is around $1.2 billion, earned in the payment technology sector and in the business of training pilots and managing private aircraft.

Isaacman has business ties with SpaceX; however, he emphasizes his intention to develop lunar programs and explore lunar resources, which differs from the position of Elon Musk, the head of SpaceX, who insists on prioritizing the colonization of Mars.

Previously, the acting head of NASA was U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy.

In May of this year, former President Donald Trump suspended Isaacman's nomination, citing the need for further scrutiny of his connections, but later resubmitted his candidacy for the position of head of the space agency.
