Trump threatened the BBC with a $1 billion lawsuit for distorting his speech, - The New York Times

President of the United States Donald Trump intends to file a lawsuit against the BBC for no less than $1 billion, accusing the network of "malicious and offensive" distortion of his speech regarding the events of the Capitol riot in January 2021.

In a letter obtained by The New York Times, Trump demands that the network withdraw the documentary that distorted his speech, as well as issue a public apology and pay compensation. Otherwise, the newspaper reports, "President Trump will be forced to defend his legal interests, including the possibility of filing a lawsuit for damages of at least $1 billion."

Trump's demands must be met by the BBC by November 14, 5:00 PM Eastern Time.

"The BBC has been warned," the letter states, adding: "Please act accordingly."

Amid this scandal, BBC Director General Tim Davie and News Director Deborah Turness have resigned from their positions.

An investigation conducted by The Telegraph revealed that the BBC's Panorama documentary used an edited version of Trump's speech, which could mislead viewers.

In particular, the network edited two parts of Trump's speech in such a way that it creates the impression that he openly called for the takeover of the U.S. Congress in 2021.
