Kegety Zone is located 75 km from Bishkek in the gorge of the same name on the road to the village of Ivanovka and further to the Kegety gorge. The Kegety River has many tributaries, the largest of which is the right tributary Keltor, forming a very beautiful independent area. It is interesting to note that the Keltor River flows underground through the moraines and only bursts forth with a roar into the open in the forest zone. At the beginning of the gorge, the slopes are covered with individual bushes of juniper, barberry, wild rose, honeysuckle, and rowan. Before the waterfall cascade, they are replaced by a spruce forest with dense underbrush. Further, the bottom of the gorge rises sharply by 200 meters. Trees densely group together, and only the strongest, extraordinarily tall and slender ones spread across the slopes, rising to the beginning of the waterfall. The clean forest shifts to the left side of the gorge, and after it ends, in the zone of alpine meadows, a gradual ascent along the moraine begins up to the dam that separates the moraine-dammed lake Keltor ("lake place") from the gorge. The lake is located at an altitude of 2725 m, with a surface area of 0.2 km². Water from the lake flows underground. 3 km upstream are the moraines and large glaciers of Keltor and Anastasia. At the beginning of the glacier, among the moraines, small picturesque lakes with a milky-turquoise color of water are beautifully situated.
The valley of the Kegety River is more gentle. Steep slopes descend almost to the water's edge. A good dirt road runs along the bottom of the gorge by the river. Tien Shan spruces are becoming more and more abundant. The slopes are now densely covered with forest. In the floodplain, thickets of shrubs dominate. There is a large number of medicinal herbs in the area. Among them are marshmallow, sage, St. John's wort, rhubarb, succession, and medicinal thyme. Wild strawberries grow on grassy slopes, at the edges of forests, in clearings, among bushes, and in spruce forests. Fragrant berries ripen in late June to early July. Wild strawberries are very delicate; they should be collected in dry containers, preferably in the morning when the dew has dried, and at the end of the day before the dew appears, so they last longer.
The natural and climatic conditions of the area are favorable for organizing various types of tourism.
Among the particularly bright attractions, one can mention the moraine-glacial lake Keltor with turquoise water in the upper reaches of the same-named tributary; the picturesque Barsakelmes waterfall, 30 m high, in the gorge of the first tributary of the Keltor River; and the Kegety waterfall, 20 m high, in the gorge of the left tributary of the Kegety River. The latter waterfall is especially beautiful in winter with the ice formations combined with the sparkling flow of water. Not far from the forestry office are the caves and grottos of Kara-Unkyur.
From the upper reaches of the Keltor gorge, one can reach the forest zone of Kegety via a pass (3400 m) located near the granite peak (4200 m), and through the passes of the right bank to the "Shamsi" zone. Through the depressions and branches of the left bank of the Kegety gorge, the area is connected to the forested gorge of Tuyuk Issyk-Ata.
