The Shamsi Gorge is located 120 km from the city of Bishkek and 60 km south of the city of Tokmak. The slopes of this gorge are quite narrow and steep. A turbulent mountain river, Shamsi, flows through the gorge. Spruces and other evergreen trees grow in the gorge, which have an excellent forest aroma. Tian Shan spruces and pines are represented here in natural forests.
A notable feature of this gorge is Lake Tuyuk-Keltor, located at the upper part of the Tuyuk River. The total area of the lake is 0.2 sq. km. The Shamsi Gorge also has waterfalls that are arranged in a cascade on the Chon-Keltor River. This river is a right tributary of the Shamsi River.
The gorge boasts a vast diversity of flora and fauna.
