


In the Kyrgyz Republic, individuals suspected of organizing mass riots have been detained. This was reported by the country's Ministry of Internal Affairs.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, on February 9, information appeared in the media and social networks that 75 citizens had appealed to President Sadyr Japarov and Chairman of the Jogorku Kenesh Nurlanbek Turgunbek uulu with an initiative for new presidential elections. Among those who signed this appeal were scientists, former prime ministers, former deputies, and well-known public figures.
Some of the statements contained in this appeal have sparked significant discussion in society and contributed to the escalation of the political situation in the country.
In this regard, the investigative department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs initiated a criminal case on the grounds of a crime provided for by part 1 of Article 278 of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic, concerning mass riots. Today, the 75 citizens mentioned in the appeal were brought in for investigative activities.
The initiators and active participants of the riots – T.B. and U.E. (born 1955), D.K. (born 1960) – have been detained. They have been placed in a detention center based on Article 96 of the Criminal Procedure Code. Searches have also been conducted in their residences.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs urges citizens not to succumb to provocations and not to spread false information.
