In Iran, there is a debate about whether to allow women to ride motorcycles.
Nevertheless, more and more women are daring to ride motorcycles, ignoring the existing restrictions. "I dreamed of a motorcycle since I was young, and although it was impossible for a long time, I finally bought one," shares 46-year-old Yeganeh. She does not own a car and risks every time she rides her motorcycle: "I am afraid it will be confiscated, and I don't want problems with the police. If an accident happens, we women are not entitled to insurance, so I try to be careful," she explains.
Members of the Iranian parliament have begun to consider the possibility of granting women the official right to ride motorcycles, which many have already perceived as a positive step. While motorcycles still remain in a "gray area," women caught driving may face the police and the judicial system. Yeganeh has already had to delete all her motorcycle photos from social media at the authorities' request, but she does not give up: "It gives me a sense of freedom. In a society where I am forbidden many things, I can be a little myself."
