At a recent Sotheby’s auction in New York, Vincent van Gogh's painting "Stacks of Parisian Novels and Roses in a Glass" was sold for an impressive $62.7 million. According to the ANP agency, this price exceeded the lot's pre-sale estimate by 35 percent.

The buyer of the painting was art historian Patty Wong. Before the auction, experts from the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam carefully examined the work and confirmed its authenticity.

This piece was created by Van Gogh in Paris in November-December 1887, when he was living with his brother Theo and was influenced by French art.

It is worth noting that another famous painting was sold at the New York auction earlier — Gustav Klimt's "Portrait of Elisabeth Lederer," which fetched $236.4 million, making it the second most expensive lot in history.
