At the Sotheby's auction in New York, a work by the famous Austrian artist Gustav Klimt, "Portrait of Elisabeth Lederer," was successfully sold for $236.4 million. This fact was confirmed by the auction house, which reported that this painting now holds the record for the most expensive work of contemporary art ever sold at auction.
According to information from TASS, "Portrait of Elisabeth Lederer" depicts the daughter of wealthy patrons of Klimt, dressed in an elegant gown adorned with exquisite patterns. Interestingly, the artist completed this work just two years before his death.
Gustav Klimt, a key figure in Austrian painting modernism, is also known as the founder of the art association "Vienna Secession," established in 1897, where he served as president. His oeuvre includes such famous paintings as "The Kiss," "Judith and Holofernes," and "Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer."
