The creator of this art object is Italian conceptual artist Maurizio Cattelan. The toilet, made of 18-karat gold, was created in two copies; however, one of them was stolen in 2019 from an exhibition at Blenheim Palace, located in Oxfordshire, England.
The name "America" was given to this toilet, which is a fully functional item made from 100 kilograms of gold.
The auction house Sotheby’s has displayed this art object in its new office in New York.
In addition to the toilet, Maurizio Cattelan's works include well-known pieces such as Novecento ("Nine Hundred" — a horse suspended from the ceiling in an Italian castle in Rivoli) and Comedian ("Comic" — a banana taped to the wall).
