Starting in 2029, the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences plans to move the broadcast of the Oscars from ABC to YouTube, according to information published by The Hollywood Reporter.

Under the agreement reached, YouTube will receive exclusive rights to stream the ceremony live for free until 2033, including the red carpet show, behind-the-scenes events, and the Governors Awards presentation, allowing viewers around the world, as well as YouTube TV subscribers in the U.S., to follow the event.

Meanwhile, ABC will retain the rights to air the Oscars in the U.S. until 2028, when the milestone 100th ceremony will take place. Thus, the contract with YouTube will conclude nearly 50 years of the event being broadcast on ABC.
