The American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced plans to begin streaming the Oscars ceremony on YouTube starting in 2029, as reported by the BBC.

The agreement with YouTube, according to agency information, will last until 2033, and, as CNN emphasizes, this will be a significant step for the entertainment industry, as the broadcast will move from traditional television to a global streaming platform.

This agreement includes not only the ceremony itself but also the red carpet shows, backstage coverage, and the governors' ball. All content will be available for free to viewers around the world.

The parties hope that the transition to the new platform will help eliminate barriers and make the Oscars accessible to an international audience, the publication notes.
