Fighting has erupted again on the border between Thailand and Cambodia, according to international news agencies. As of the latest reports, one person has died and four have been injured.

According to statements from Thai authorities, the fire was opened by Cambodia using BM-21 multiple rocket launchers. These clashes occurred a month and a half after a peace agreement was signed, mediated by U.S. President Donald Trump, which was made available to all.

In response to the shelling, the Thai armed forces conducted airstrikes on alleged "Cambodian firing positions" along the disputed border.

Due to the deteriorating situation, Thailand closed 641 schools, and about 70 percent of residents in border areas have been evacuated.

The Cambodian Ministry of Defense claims that the Thai side was the first to attack. Both countries have accused each other of violating the previously reached ceasefire.

The previous escalation at the border occurred in July 2025. In October of the same year, the countries signed a peace agreement under the chairmanship of Donald Trump, who described it as "historic."

The long-standing conflict between Cambodia and Thailand arose from disputes over territories near the Preah Vihear temple complex, especially after UNESCO included it on the World Heritage List on July 7, 2008.
