According to information from the BBC, the temporary suspension of all asylum decisions was implemented by the Donald Trump administration following a tragic incident involving the shooting of National Guard members in Washington last week.
As a result of this attack, a 20-year-old National Guard employee was killed, and her colleague was injured and is in critical condition. The suspect in the attack turned out to be a citizen of Afghanistan.
Joseph Edlow, head of the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), stated that his agency has temporarily halted all decisions regarding asylum until strict checks are completed for all foreign nationals.
On Friday, Donald Trump also announced plans to "permanently suspend migration" from all "third world countries," adding that green cards issued to people from 19 countries will be reviewed.
