On November 26, Wednesday, an incident involving gunfire occurred near the White House in Washington. As a result of the attack, two members of the U.S. National Guard were injured and are in critical condition. This was reported by President Donald Trump on the social network Truth Social, as informed by Lenta.ru.

According to local police, the shooting took place at the intersection of 17th and I Streets. The suspect has been detained, but their identity has not yet been established. U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance stated that the motives of the attacker remain unknown.

West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey initially reported the possible death of the soldiers but later clarified that conflicting information about their condition had been received and promised to provide updates.

In connection with the incident, the area around the White House was cordoned off, and security measures were significantly increased. The presidential residence was placed on lockdown, and operations at Washington's airport were temporarily suspended, although they were later resumed as usual.

The injured suspect was taken to the hospital. Preliminary reports indicate that he acted alone, ambushing the National Guardsmen, as stated by Assistant Chief of Police for Special Operations Jeff Carroll.

It is worth noting that in early November, the U.S. National Guard was deployed to suppress unrest in Washington, and the Pentagon instructed many military personnel to undergo training for actions in situations of mass disorder.
