According to the police, the teenager, who is a citizen of one of the Central Asian countries, set fire to the vehicle at the direction of unknown individuals with whom he had previously communicated via messenger. He bought gasoline and poured it on the patrol car, which was parked near the traffic police department.
A report of the arson was received by the duty officer, and emergency services quickly localized the fire in the parking lot near house 205 on the Obvodny Canal embankment. As a result of the incident, no one was injured.
Later, the press service of the Investigative Committee of Russia for St. Petersburg reported that a criminal case had been initiated against the detained individual under the article on terrorist acts. The teenager was taken for questioning by the investigator, and necessary forensic examinations were appointed.
