Trump cancels tariffs on a number of products due to rising prices

President of the United States Donald Trump has decided to cancel increased tariffs on more than 200 food items, including coffee, beef, bananas, and orange juice. This order was published on the official White House website on Friday, November 14, reports DW.

Concerns of Americans about inflation

According to Reuters, this initiative was prompted by growing concerns among U.S. citizens about rising food prices. The cancellation of tariffs took effect retroactively — from midnight Thursday, November 13. This decision marks a sharp change in Trump’s policy, who had long claimed that the high import tariffs he imposed earlier this year did not contribute to inflation.

In response to questions from journalists on November 14 aboard Air Force One, Trump acknowledged that tariffs "in some cases" can lead to price increases. However, he emphasized that there is "virtually no inflation" in the U.S.

Additionally, the president noted that he intends to distribute $2,000 to each American with low or middle income next year, using funds that have entered the budget due to the increased tariffs.
