U.S. President Donald Trump intends to sue the BBC, demanding $1 billion in compensation. The reason for this is a documentary film in which, according to Trump's lawyer, the president's speech was distorted with the intent to discredit him, reports Kazinform, citing The New York Times.
In a letter sent on behalf of Trump by attorney Alejandro Brito, there is a demand for the complete withdrawal of the film, an apology, and compensation for the harm caused.
If the BBC does not meet these conditions, President Trump will be forced to defend his legal rights, including through a lawsuit for no less than $1 billion.
The lawsuit will be filed if the BBC does not take any action by Friday at 5:00 PM Eastern Time.
The film titled "Trump: Second Chance?" was released before the last presidential elections and has already been removed from the BBC's online archive.
BBC Chairman Samir Shah acknowledged in a separate letter that the editing of the speech created the impression of a call to violence and apologized for that. Shah also apologized to Parliament.
