“The US has a larger nuclear arsenal than any other country”
President Donald Trump announced his decision to instruct the Pentagon to resume nuclear weapons testing.
“In a situation where other states continue their testing programs, I have ordered the start of testing our nuclear arsenal on a parity basis. These actions will begin immediately,” he wrote on the social network TruthSocial on the night of October 30.
According to Trump, the United States currently possesses more nuclear weapons than any other country.
“Russia is in second place, and China is third, but they are significantly behind. However, within five years they could catch up to us,” the president added.
Since 1992, the US has not conducted full-scale nuclear weapons testing. Although Washington signed but did not ratify the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT) of 1996, the country continues to conduct subcritical underground tests at the Nevada test site, DW reports.
