Israel accused Hamas militants of attacking its soldiers
In response to the actions of the Islamist group Hamas, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) began striking positions of militants in the Gaza Strip, as reported by DW.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, after consultations on security matters, ordered massive attacks on Gaza territory, as stated in a statement from his office.
According to media reports, airstrikes were directed at the southern part of the strip and the city of Gaza itself. The Health Ministry, which is controlled by Hamas, reported nine fatalities.
Earlier, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz stated that Hamas militants attacked IDF soldiers, thereby violating the terms of the ceasefire. He did not specify the location of the incident; however, according to media reports, it occurred near the city of Rafah, which is located on the border with Egypt.
This is not the first time the ceasefire in Gaza has been threatened, and the IDF has responded with strikes on Hamas positions. Similar situations were recorded on October 19 and 25, as noted by the publication.
U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance, commenting on the new strikes in the Gaza Strip on October 28, stated that "the ceasefire remains in place."
“However, this does not rule out the possibility of minor clashes,” he added.
Vance confirmed that IDF soldiers came under fire from Hamas militants or "someone from the Gaza Strip." "We expect Israel to respond to this. But I am confident that the peace achieved by President Trump will remain in effect," the U.S. Vice President concluded.
