The Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) has confirmed its decision to withdraw its armed formations from Turkish territory, which was also stated by the official representative of the Justice and Development Party (AKP), Ömer Çelik, on the social network X.

Çelik noted that the actions of the PKK and their new disarmament measures indicate positive changes in the fight against terrorism in the country. He emphasized that the goal is to eliminate all PKK structures, both in Turkey and in neighboring regions such as Iraq and Syria, which is a necessary condition for freeing Turkey from terrorism.

According to the PKK, this decision was made with the consent of their leader Abdullah Öcalan, who is imprisoned in Turkey. The statement was made in the Iraqi region of Qandil, where militants are located, as reported by Reuters. Party representatives expressed the opinion that the presence of armed formations on Turkish soil could lead to conflicts and provocations. They emphasized that this step is aimed at creating a free, democratic, and brotherly life.

In May, the PKK congress decided to dissolve itself and end nearly 50 years of armed conflict with the Turkish authorities. In February 2025, Öcalan called for the disarmament of all organizational structures and an end to the confrontation with Ankara. The first group of militants already surrendered their weapons on July 11 in Iraqi Kurdistan, and Turkish authorities hope to complete the disarmament process by the end of 2025.
