Israel Strikes Gaza, Blaming Hamas for Ceasefire Violation
The statement from Netanyahu's office says that after security consultations, the prime minister instructed the army to immediately carry out powerful strikes on the Gaza Strip.
Shortly after this, information emerged that the city of Gaza was subjected to bombing.
According to Gaza authorities controlled by Hamas, Israeli military conducted at least three strikes, resulting in the deaths of at least nine people.
Reports indicate that at least 33 Palestinians have fallen victim to Israeli attacks, as reported by Gaza's civil defense services and hospital administration. The strikes affected residential buildings and schools in places such as Gaza, Beit Lahia, Al-Bureij, Nuseirat, and Khan Younis.
After Netanyahu announced the bombing, Hamas stated that it would not transfer the remains of another hostage to Israel, although it had previously promised that this would be done on Tuesday.
Israel accused Hamas of violating the ceasefire conditions after the group returned only part of the remains of one hostage instead of the body of another deceased individual.
On Monday evening, Hamas reported the transfer of the 16th of 28 bodies of hostages they agreed to return under the ceasefire agreement.
However, according to Netanyahu's office, Hamas actually returned only body parts of a hostage whose remains were returned to Israel about two years ago.
A forensic examination confirmed that the remains belong to Ofir Tsarfati, who was abducted from the Nova music festival, whose body was found by Israeli military in 2023, and not to one of the 13 deceased hostages, whose bodies are still in Gaza, as indicated by Netanyahu's office.
Ceasefire agreements between Israel and Hamas were reached in early October with the assistance of the United States. On October 13, leaders from the U.S., Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey signed a declaration on "sustainable peace and prosperity."
As part of this agreement, Israel ceased shelling the Gaza Strip, and Hamas released all remaining live hostages and began transferring the bodies of the deceased.
Nevertheless, both sides continue to accuse each other of violating the terms of the ceasefire.
