According to information published by the Times of Israel, on the night of October 27 to 28, Hamas returned body parts of one of the hostages, which forensic examination established had already been handed over to Israel. Meanwhile, the bodies of the other 13 hostages, who died earlier, have not yet been returned.
After Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered strikes on Gaza, Hamas announced the postponement of the planned transfer of the deceased hostage's body, citing a violation of the ceasefire regime, as reported by Al Jazeera.
According to the channel's information, one of the rockets hit the area of the "Al-Shifa" hospital, which had just resumed operations, and drones were spotted in the sky over Gaza.
The Axios publication reports that Netanyahu likely planned to discuss the situation with U.S. President Donald Trump and obtain his approval; however, after the incident in Rafah, he ordered the start of attacks without waiting for a response. Trump is currently on a visit to Japan.
The ceasefire regime between Israel and Hamas, established on October 10, was the first part of the peace process in Gaza. On October 13, Trump announced the achievement of a "sustainable peace" in the Middle East.
Previously, Hamas released 20 Israeli hostages who had been held captive for two years. A declaration on the ceasefire in Gaza was also signed in Egypt.
It is worth noting that the White House presented a 20-point plan to resolve the situation in Gaza, which includes the introduction of temporary international governance.
