They want to remove border guards from the Kyrgyz-Tajik border

“The main task is to ensure friendly relations and mutual understanding between our peoples”

The head of the State Committee for National Security (SCNS), Kamchybek Tashiev, announced the possible removal of border guards from the Kyrgyz-Tajik border. This statement was made at a meeting of the Council of Commanders of Border Troops of the CIS, which took place today in Manas.

Tashiev noted that the presidents of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, Sadyr Japarov and Emomali Rahmon, are actively working on creating conditions for peaceful coexistence in border areas. “The main task is to ensure friendly relations and mutual understanding between our peoples,” he added.

According to him, significant engineering works have recently been carried out on the border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. According to the Border Service, by October 25, 2025, it is planned to install over 107 kilometers of wire and 3D fences, as well as to mount reinforced concrete posts and build more than 143 kilometers of roads.

In light of these changes, Tashiev believes that the need for a permanent military presence on the border may soon disappear.
