The process of demarcating the border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan is at its final stage, as reported on October 30, 2025, by Kamchybek Tashiev, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Head of the State National Security Committee (GKNB).

This statement was made during the 91st meeting of the Council of Commanders of Border Troops of the Commonwealth of Independent States, taking place in Manas, where Tashiev held meetings with representatives from five regions of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.

Among the participants of the meeting were the presidential envoys in the Batken, Osh, and Jalal-Abad regions: Aibek Shamenov, Elchibek Jantayev, and Tilek Tekebaev, as well as the chairmen of the Sughd region of Tajikistan, Rajabboy Ahmadzoda, and the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region, Alisher Khudoberdy.

According to Tashiev, work has currently been completed on more than 100 kilometers of the state border.

Rajabboy Ahmadzoda, the chairman of the Sughd region, noted that between 5,000 and 6,000 people cross the Kyrgyz-Tajik border daily, moving between the Sughd and Batken regions.

“The borders are open, and the checkpoints are functioning. Now our citizens, both Kyrgyz and Tajiks, will be able to cross the border legally, without smuggling and violations,” Tashiev added.

Ahmadzoda also reported on discussions held with the presidential envoys of Kyrgyzstan regarding the opening of Tajik enterprises in the specified regions.

“Now we just need to be friends and coexist,” Tashiev concluded.

According to the Border Service of the GKNB of Kyrgyzstan, as of October 25, 2025, the following engineering works on the state border have been completed:

- 107 km 590.5 m of wire has been installed, including:

- concrete pillars — 109 348.5 m;

- "Yegosa" wire — 71 989 m;

- barbed wire — 26 419 m;

- 3D fences — 9 182.5 m.

In addition, 143 km 655 m of roads have been constructed.

Turmush previously reported that on April 29, 2025, work began on the installation of border fencing in the area adjacent to the stele at the junction of the borders of Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.

The work began in the Koshmolo area of the Batken district.

A field camp was established to facilitate the installation work, providing comfortable conditions for border guards, and the necessary equipment was delivered.

In the first phase, it is planned to install fencing along a stretch of 420 km. The work is expected to be completed by the end of the year.

Earlier, on March 13, 2025, the work on the delimitation of the border was completed when an agreement on border issues was signed by the two presidents in Bishkek.
As a result of a trilateral meeting held on March 31, the presidents of Kyrgyzstan, Sadyr Japarov, Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, and Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, signed the Agreement on the Junction Point of the Borders of the Three States and the Khujand Declaration of Eternal Friendship.

These documents became a symbol of respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the countries and demonstrated an example of constructive dialogue and effective cooperation in Central Asia.

The heads of state also participated in the ceremony of unveiling a symbolic stele at the junction point of the borders. The event took place via video conference from Khujand, where the presidents simultaneously pressed a button on a special device, after which the deputy prime ministers of the three countries cut the ribbon, officially opening the stele.

This stele embodies the friendship of the peoples and symbolizes a new era of cooperation, trust, and good neighborliness between the countries after the final resolution of border issues.
