At today's 91st meeting of the Council of Commanders of the Border Troops of the CIS in Manas, the Chairman of the State Committee for National Security (SCNS) Kamchybek Tashiev announced that the permanent presence of border guards at the border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan may be canceled in the near future.

According to Tashiev, the presidents of the two countries, Sadyr Japarov and Emomali Rahmon, are actively working to create conditions that promote peaceful coexistence and friendship between the peoples of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.

According to information from the Border Service of the SCNS, as of October 25, 2025, significant engineering work has already been carried out on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border: over 107 kilometers of wire and barbed wire have been installed, reinforced concrete posts and 3D fences have been erected, and more than 143 kilometers of roads have been built.

So far, details regarding the possible withdrawal of border guards remain undisclosed.
