On December 8, the Thai army announced airstrikes on military targets in Cambodia located in disputed areas along the border. This decision was a result of mutual accusations between the two countries of violating ceasefire conditions, according to information from Reuters.

According to Thai military data, one Thai soldier was killed and four were injured as a result of recent clashes. These events occurred in two zones of the eastern province of Ubon Ratchathani after Cambodian forces allegedly opened fire on Thai troops.

In an official statement, the Thai army noted that "the use of aviation became necessary to strike military targets in various regions."

The Cambodian Ministry of Defense confirmed that strikes were carried out at dawn in two locations but denied reports that their troops had taken retaliatory actions.

The Thai army also reported that Cambodia was shelling civilian objects on its territory using BM-21 multiple rocket launchers, although no casualties among civilians have been recorded.

It should be noted that a ceasefire was reached in July of this year with the support of the United States and Malaysia. The conflict that preceded this claimed the lives of dozens of people and led to the forced displacement of hundreds of thousands of citizens.

A recent incident involving the detonation of an anti-personnel mine resulted in injuries to one Thai soldier and caused the suspension of the ceasefire agreement.

According to the Thai military, over 385,000 civilians from four border districts have been evacuated, with more than 35,000 of them already placed in shelters.

The dispute between Thailand and Cambodia has been ongoing for over a hundred years: the borders defined during colonial times remain unmarked, regularly provoking armed conflicts.
