According to data provided by Reuters, the death toll from floods and landslides in three Southeast Asian countries has reached 600 people. Over the weekend, rescue and humanitarian operations continued for tens of thousands of people who have left their homes.

Although water levels have begun to recede, rescue services are facing difficulties accessing some affected regions. Official reports indicate that tens of thousands of people have been rescued during evacuations, and the total number of affected individuals has exceeded 4 million: about 3 million in southern Thailand and 1.1 million in western Indonesia.

Additionally, authorities reported 153 dead and 191 missing in Sri Lanka due to the cyclone in the Bay of Bengal, with over 500,000 residents of the country suffering losses.

Indonesia

In Indonesia, the death toll has reached 435 people. This data was published on the government website as information came in from the western part of Sumatra, where three provinces were affected by floods and landslides.

Due to destroyed and blocked roads, many areas have become isolated, and damaged telecommunications lines have hindered communication. Rescuers are using helicopters to deliver aid to hard-to-reach settlements.

Reports indicate that in some regions there are cases of looting of humanitarian aid amid acute shortages. Currently, 406 people are reported missing, and more than 213,000 have been temporarily displaced.

Thailand and Malaysia

According to the Thai Ministry of Health, 170 people have died as a result of the floods in the south of the country, and 102 have been injured. The highest losses have been recorded in Songkhla province, where the death toll has reached 131. In Hat Yai, the largest city in the region, 335 mm of rainfall fell in one Friday — a record for the last 300 years.

In Malaysia, according to the National Disaster Management Agency, about 18,700 people are currently in evacuation centers. On Saturday, meteorological services canceled warnings about the tropical storm and heavy rains, predicting an improvement in weather conditions.

Additionally, the Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported the evacuation of more than 6,200 of its citizens who were stranded in Thailand.
