Earthquake in Afghanistan felt in Tajikistan

The epicenter of the tremors was located in Afghanistan, approximately 236 kilometers southwest of Dushanbe, 80 kilometers from Shahritus (Khatlon region), and 322 kilometers from Penjikent (Sughd region).

According to the Committee for Emergency Situations of Tajikistan, the magnitude of the earthquake that occurred on November 3 at 01:29 Dushanbe time was 6-7 points at the epicenter. In Dushanbe, the tremors were felt with a force of about 4 points, while in Penjikent, they were approximately 3 points.

Local residents are sharing their impressions of the earthquake on social media, noting that the prolonged and powerful vibrations caused them fear, and some left their homes in panic.

Seismic tremors were also registered in Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.

Uzbek seismologists assessed the magnitude of the earthquake at 6.8. In Uzbekistan, the strongest tremors were felt in the Surkhandarya region, where their intensity reached 5 points. In the Kashkadarya region, the tremors were measured at 3-4 points, in five other regions at about 3 points, and in Tashkent at 2-3 points.

According to Kazakhstani seismologists, the magnitude of the earthquake in Afghanistan was 6.2. In the city of Shymkent and in the settlements of Shardara, Zhetisay, and Myrzakent in the Turkestan region, tremors of 2 points were recorded.

So far, there has been no information about destruction or casualties in these countries.

Meanwhile, in Afghanistan, where the epicenter was located, the number of fatalities has exceeded 20, and about 200 people have been injured.

Earlier reports indicated seven fatalities.

The evacuation of the injured to medical facilities is ongoing, and the death toll may increase.

We remind you that on August 31, 2025, an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.0 occurred in eastern Afghanistan, resulting in the deaths of more than 2,200 people.

Afghanistan is considered one of the most vulnerable countries in the region to earthquakes due to its location at the intersection of two major active tectonic faults, which often cause severe destruction, as reported by Reuters.
