As a result of the earthquake, at least seven people have died, and around 150 have been injured. According to Haji Zaid, a representative from Balkh province, the tremors partially damaged the Blue Mosque in Mazar-i-Sharif, as reported by Reuters.
The earthquake occurred at 01:29, 45 kilometers east-southeast of Mazar-i-Sharif, which has a population of about 303,000. The epicenter was located at a depth of 10 kilometers.
The tremors were felt not only in Afghanistan but also in neighboring countries — Uzbekistan and southern Kazakhstan.
Uzbek specialists assessed the magnitude of the seismic event at 6.8. The strongest vibrations were recorded in the Surkhandarya region, where the intensity reached five points. In the Kashkadarya region, the tremors were felt at three to four points, in five other regions at three points, and in Tashkent at two to three points.
According to Kazakh seismologists, the magnitude of the earthquake was 6.2. In Shymkent, as well as in Shardara, Zhetysay, and the village of Myrzakent in the Turkestan region, the tremors were felt at two points.
