According to information from seismologists, tremors were not detected in Almaty; however, the national alert system was activated. Residents of the city received notifications on their mobile phones, and an audio warning was issued advising them to go outside and find shelter in a safe place.
It is worth noting that a month ago, residents of Almaty also received messages about an earthquake. The Department of Emergency Situations explained the mass distribution as "testing of the Mass Alert system," but later clarified that the notifications were sent automatically after an earthquake that occurred 9 kilometers from the city with a magnitude of 3.8, although it was not felt in Almaty.
