The first appearance of mosquitoes has been recorded in Iceland. According to BBC News, this year has been a record warm one for the country.

Previously, Iceland remained one of only two places on the planet free of mosquitoes, the other being Antarctica.

Mosquitoes were spotted in the glacial valley of Kvísl, located southwest of Iceland's capital, Reykjavik. This discovery was made by local insect enthusiast Björn Hjálmarsson, according to local media. Over several nights last week, he observed nocturnal moths using ropes soaked in wine as bait.
