The process of recruiting victims occurred under the pretext of job offers in modeling and advertising agencies. The girls were promised high fees and attractive shoots, but upon arrival, they were stripped of their documents and communication, forcing them to participate in fraudulent schemes or preparing them for organ trafficking, as reported by the media.
The situation in Myanmar remains particularly complicated: the military is conducting sweeps in mountainous areas in the north of the country, where illegal camps operated. Among the victims are girls from various countries, including citizens of the CIS.
Earlier, RIA Novosti reported that in 2025, Russian diplomats managed to free four Russian citizens who found themselves in call centers in Myanmar, in border areas with Thailand, partially controlled by rebels. The operation was conducted with the support of the Russian embassy in Bangkok and the authorities of Thailand and Myanmar.
Ilya Ilyin, head of the consular department of the Russian embassy in Thailand, noted that these centers represent closed cities with restaurants, shops, and casinos, surrounded by barbed wire and guarded by armed men. Inside, strict labor conditions apply: each worker is given a monthly "plan" for revenue, failure to meet which is punished with physical violence.
The recruitment scheme often begins in Telegram channels with job offers in "Asia." Managers promise vacancies in advertising or modeling, after which the victim is invited to Bangkok. Upon arrival, they are met, taken to the border, and illegally transported to Myanmar, where their phone is immediately confiscated. Many do not even realize that they are outside Thailand.
One of the rescued Russians, Dashima Ochirnimaeva, spent three weeks in a camp where she was held without communication and almost without food, waiting for resale to another unit. Thanks to the intervention of Russian diplomats, the girl was returned to Bangkok through the border crossing in Mesot.
According to Ilyin, information about kidnappings most often comes from relatives who manage to receive short messages from the call centers. After that, diplomats contact the authorities of Thailand and Myanmar to organize the return of Russians at the border.
Sometimes the freed individuals report that there are also those who remain in the centers voluntarily for high incomes, reaching $5,000–9,000 a month. However, most of the abducted become victims of human trafficking and have no opportunity to leave the territory without a ransom.
