According to the latest data from the international organization IQAir, Bishkek ranks third among the largest cities in the world for air pollution, with an AQI index of 281.
This level is classified as "very unhealthy." At the same time, a more critical situation is observed only in Lahore (Pakistan), where the index reaches 398, and in Cairo (Egypt) with a reading of 384 - both of these values are considered "hazardous to health."
Medical specialists warn that high levels of pollution pose a serious threat to public health. Those at risk include:
young children and the elderly;
citizens with chronic lung diseases (such as asthma and bronchitis);
individuals with cardiovascular diseases.
To protect their health, residents are advised to close windows during periods of heavy pollution, limit physical activity outdoors, and use masks (FFP2/N95) when leaving home.
