"Project Zheneke": They gave up their city home and moved to the village: How Aizhan Kurmanbekova and her husband built a happy life on a farm
Aizhan, born in 1995, recalls how she first met her love during her school years.
“I grew up in the village of Ananyevo, living with my grandmother and grandfather (on my mother's side) until the 11th grade. My future husband is also from this village, but I didn’t know about him before we met, as he studied at a Turkish lyceum. We met by chance in 2011 when I was returning home after a school assembly. After this meeting, we started communicating and dated until 2015, when he proposed to me. In 2018, we got married, and now we have a son and a daughter,” she said.
Aizhan also noted what kind of person her husband is and how they resolve conflicts together in the family.
“He is very calm and patient. He expresses his feelings not with words, but with actions. When disagreements arise, we try to stay calm, give each other time, and then discuss all issues peacefully,” she says.
After the wedding, they lived in the city until 2025, buying a house with the support of their parents. However, since her husband is the only son in the family, the couple decided to return to the village. Now they lead a rural life and manage their farm on 6 hectares. They grow apple trees, strawberries, currants, cherries, pears, plums, and raspberries, and they also have domestic animals. “By taking care of the farm, we are creating a happy family,” Aizhan added.
She recalled several funny moments from their romantic encounters.
“When we just started communicating, my friend invited us to the mountains. I refused, saying that my grandmother wouldn’t let me go. But he went to her and asked for permission. He even cooked shashlik and brought bedding with him. At that time, he was finishing the 11th grade, and I was in the 9th. In the mountains, he cooked shashlik himself, organizing a great picnic. At that moment, I thought, ‘What a skilled guy!’” she noted.
Aizhan also shared memories of the early years of their life together:
“When I became a daughter-in-law and was making manti for guests, my mother-in-law kneaded the dough too tightly. The guests had already arrived, and I couldn't roll out the dough — my hands were red and tired. When my mother-in-law came and quickly rolled out the dough, I felt ashamed, but this incident remained a warm memory of family life and became a lesson for me,” she concluded.
