Committee to Protect Journalists calls for the release of Mahabat Tajibek kyzy

The Committee to Protect Journalists and other human rights organizations urgently call on the Kyrgyz authorities to immediately release Mahabat Tajibek kyzy and to comply with the directives of the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention. She is the head of the anti-corruption projects Temirov Live and Ait Ait Dese, was arrested in January 2024, and in October of the same year received a six-year prison sentence on charges of organizing mass riots. The Supreme Court of Kyrgyzstan will consider the issue of reopening her case on February 2. In the event of a positive decision, human rights defenders demand her immediate release, compensation for her, and a thorough investigation into the reasons for her detention,” the statement reads.


It is also reported that her husband, Bolot Temirov, who is in exile, was awarded the International Press Freedom Award by CPJ in 2025.
