The Kyrgyz Media Action Platform has appealed to the Chairman of the Supreme Court, Medetbek Satyiev, and the judicial panel to consider the defense's petition for journalist Mahabat Tajibek kyzy. This appeal is related to the upcoming consideration of the issue of resuming proceedings in the case in light of new circumstances.

In the submitted document, it is emphasized that the matter is not about the essence of the accusations, but about the procedural aspect — the possibility of accepting the petition for consideration. This stage is crucial for the further review of the case in light of new facts.

The defense bases its appeal on the conclusion of the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention, which recognized the arrest of the journalist as arbitrary and contrary to Kyrgyzstan's international obligations. This conclusion points out violations of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, and highlights the connection between the criminal prosecution and the professional activities of Mahabat Tajibek kyzy.

The media platform noted that the international legal assessment is an important new circumstance that should be taken into account by the courts when making a decision on the case review. It called on the Supreme Court to ensure openness and transparency in the process, also pointing out the humanitarian aspect — the journalist is a mother of a minor child.

The organization emphasized that accepting the petition for consideration does not predetermine the final decision but guarantees the right to an impartial and fair trial. They also expressed their readiness to continue monitoring processes related to the rights of journalists and freedom of speech.

It is worth reminding that on January 16, 2024, a mass detention took place in Kyrgyzstan, during which 11 people associated with the journalistic projects Temirov LIVE and "Ayt, Ayt dese" were arrested. The journalists were accused of "inciting mass riots" in connection with their professional activities.

On October 10, 2024, the Lenin District Court of Bishkek sentenced Mahabat Tajibek kyzy, the head of Temirov LIVE, to 6 years in prison.

On December 18, 2024, the Bishkek City Court upheld the guilty verdict.

On February 25, 2025, the Supreme Court of Kyrgyzstan upheld the sentence.
