At the meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh, Deputy Gulnara Baatyrova raised an important issue regarding the problems of cancer diagnosis and treatment in the country.

She reported that there are 6,000 new cases of oncological diseases recorded annually in Kyrgyzstan, while 35,000 patients are under dispensary observation.

“Cancer ranks second in causes of mortality. 40 percent of cases are diagnosed at stages 3 and 4, indicating late diagnosis. More than half of those affected, 55 percent, are of working age — between 35 and 64 years,” emphasized Baatyrova.

According to the deputy, international standards require 20 linear accelerators for a population of 7 million, but the country has only three machines, which quickly break down.

Additionally, the parliamentarian noted the lack of a modern diagnostic base for molecular genetic and immunohistochemical studies. Tests have to be sent abroad, which negatively affects the timeliness of diagnosis.

Gulnara Baatyrova added that Kyrgyzstan lacks about 80 essential medications, and there are also issues with palliative care — there is a shortage of narcotic analgesics.
