Starting from March 1, 2026, amendments to labor legislation will come into effect in Russia, which will expand the grounds for the dismissal of foreign workers. This is reported by the media.

Now employers will be able to legally terminate employment relationships with migrants not only when federal restrictions are imposed but also based on decisions made by regional authorities. This pertains to bans on the use of foreign labor in certain industries.

Previously, such restrictions were already in place in regions like the Moscow region, Krasnodar Krai, Novgorod, and Nizhny Novgorod regions. In these areas, local laws prohibited the employment of foreign citizens working under a patent in a number of professional fields.

Employers faced the risk of fines of up to 1 million rubles or temporary suspension of activities for violating these rules, and the dismissal of such workers could be deemed unlawful. The new changes in legislation eliminate this uncertainty and confirm the right of employers to terminate employment contracts in the specified situations.
