Mullah Haibatullah Akhundzada, the Supreme Leader of Afghanistan and head of the Taliban, has announced the adoption of a new criminal procedure code, reports Meduza.

The human rights organization "Ravadari" has published the text of this document and expressed concern: the code legalizes discrimination based on gender, religion, and social status, as well as legalizes slavery, violence against dissenters, and cruel treatment, especially towards women and children.

Bilqis Ahmadi, a human rights activist, noted that the new code provides better protection for animals than for women. The Malala Yousafzai Fund, awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2014 for her fight for women's rights, stated that this document completes the process of legalizing "gender apartheid" in Afghanistan.

Many human rights and feminist organizations have pointed out one of the examples presented in the code.

Article 32 states: "If a husband inflicts serious injuries on his wife, resulting in fractures, abrasions, or bruises, and the wife can prove this to the judge, the husband will be recognized as a criminal. The judge is obliged to impose a punishment of 15 days of imprisonment."

Compare this with Article 70: "Anyone who forces animals (dogs, camels, sheep, etc.) or birds (chickens, quails, partridges) to participate in fights will be recognized as a criminal. The judge must impose a punishment of 5 months of imprisonment."

Thus, according to this code, organizing cockfights is considered a more serious crime than causing bodily harm to a spouse.
