In the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic, there is a special article concerning responsibility for cases of domestic violence. This information was announced by Daniyar Saparbaev, head of the department for the prevention of domestic violence at the Ministry of Internal Affairs, during a broadcast on Birinchi Radio.
According to him, domestic violence is divided into two main types: psychological and physical. For such offenses, the guilty party may face imprisonment for a term of 2 to 5 years.
Additionally, the Code of Offenses contains relevant provisions. In particular, Articles 70, 71, and 72 define measures of impact in situations where the harm caused is not severe:
Article 70 states that if the offense did not result in serious harm to health, the court may impose a penalty in the form of arrest for a period of 3 to 7 days or community service, the duration of which may be up to 40 hours.
According to Article 71, violating the conditions of a temporary protection order, including a repeated case of domestic violence within one month, results in arrest for a period of 7 to 14 days.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs emphasizes that both administrative and criminal measures are aimed at protecting women and children, as well as preventing the recurrence of acts of violence.
