In connection with the murder of 47-year-old U.Zh., who was the mother of three children, the Ombudsman of Kyrgyzstan, Jamila Jamambaeva, called on law enforcement agencies to respond quickly to all reports of domestic violence and take necessary measures.

“A mother of three lost her life on her birthday at the hands of her ex-husband. This tragic situation once again highlights that women and girls in our country are still not adequately protected. This makes it difficult for them to escape from abusive husbands. Those responsible must be punished according to the law,” she noted.

According to relatives of the deceased, U.Zh. had reported domestic violence to law enforcement agencies in November of this year. She later initiated a divorce.
