Recently, two young women, one of whom is a minor, were returned to Kyrgyzstan after being in labor migration in Kazakhstan. This was reported by the press service of the Ombudsman Institute.

The girls' mother, who lives in the Kara-Suu district of the Osh region, sought help from Ombudsman Jamilya Dzhamanbaeva at the beginning of this month.

The woman explained that in March 2024, a citizen known as K.K. took her daughters (16 and 18 years old) to Shymkent, promising them work and care. However, soon the girls informed their mother that they were being subjected to physical abuse and forced to work late into the night.

“They worked for two sisters at the market. After work, they had to carry heavy bags in the warehouse, and they were treated like slaves. When the girls decided to leave, they were beaten. I called and demanded the return of my daughters, but K.K. refused, claiming that we had a contract for three years,” the woman shared.

Additionally, the mother added that the employers took her daughters' documents, which deprived them of the ability to leave Kazakhstan independently.

The Ombudsman Institute reported that official requests were sent to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Internal Affairs asking for assistance in returning the Kyrgyz women to their homeland. Jamilya Dzhamanbaeva emphasized that serious violations of the girls' rights and freedoms had occurred. According to the KR Children's Code, involving children in labor activities and forcing them to work is prohibited, as is making them lift weights beyond the established norms.

Thanks to the assistance of the Consulate General of Kyrgyzstan in Almaty and the Kyrgyz diaspora, the girls were found in Shymkent. After a court hearing related to violations of Kazakhstan's migration legislation, the Kyrgyz women returned to their homeland and were handed over to their mother.
