He emphasized that this stadium is the only sports facility in that part of the city. Previously, residents could engage in sports on the running track and the workout area during morning and evening hours, but access to these zones has been closed since the start of the renovations.
“The stadium is meant for the residents, isn’t it? Or was it built only for hosting football matches? If games are held once every two months, does that mean the stadium will only be open then?” the deputy asked.
Urmatt Asanbaev, the director of the agency, in turn, confirmed that he is aware of the current situation. He added that the restrictions are temporary.
“The contractors need to lay several layers of special covering on the track. After the third layer was laid, the weather changed. As soon as it warms up, the work on laying the covering will resume. The workout areas are currently in storage, and they will be returned to their places after the renovations are completed,” Asanbaev noted.
It is also worth mentioning that a petition was initiated on the platform change.org, aimed at ensuring access to the stadium for the residents of Bishkek. The authors of the petition emphasized that this stadium is a public asset, created and renovated with taxpayers' money, and therefore should be accessible to everyone.
