At a recent briefing, the head of the Primary Health Care Department of the Ministry of Health, Nurgul Ibraeva, shared alarming statistics about mental disorders in Kyrgyzstan. "According to the electronic health center, as of January 1, 2025, over 50,000 patients with mental disorders have been registered. Every year, about 3,000 to 4,500 people are diagnosed for the first time. This corresponds to an annual growth rate of 10-11%," she explained.

Ibraeva also conducted an analysis of data over the past ten years and noted that the increase in the number of such patients has been observed since 2021.

Furthermore, she emphasized that this trend is not unique to Kyrgyzstan but is a global issue. "The World Health Organization has identified this as a worldwide problem, and the Ministry of Health is paying special attention to mental health issues and the development of psychiatric services," Ibraeva added. She reminded that mental disorders fall into the category of major non-communicable diseases, which also include diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and cancers.
