On February 18, an important preventive campaign "Stop Violations - Save Lives" was launched in Bishkek at Ala-Too Square.

Importance of Traffic Rules

Since the beginning of 2026, there have been over 100 fatalities in road traffic accidents in the republic, as reported by police captain Nurlanbek Niyazbekov, head of the DPS and law enforcement practice department of the Main Department of Road Safety of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic.

"The main goal of the campaign is to reduce the number of traffic accidents and increase the responsibility of all road users," Niyazbekov noted, adding that this year there has been a decrease in the number of accidents compared to the beginning of the previous year.

As part of the campaign, drivers who are stopped are offered a new edition of the traffic rules, which includes traffic signs and norms of driver responsibility.

Participants in the campaign are also given water and dates for those who are fasting, as well as mugs and thermoses with traffic safety symbols.

"Follow the Traffic Rules!"

Emergency service employees also appealed to citizens to yield to vehicles with flashing lights.

"Some drivers do not understand what happens when doctors are performing resuscitation in an ambulance and do not give way. We ask you to pay attention to this," said ambulance driver Aibek Omorov, adding that this also applies to fire trucks.

According to him, the increasing traffic density on the roads and the rise in traffic jams complicate the work of emergency services.

"Every family in the city will call for an ambulance sooner or later. We will definitely come to you. Therefore, we ask: help us - yield the road," he emphasized.

The majority of drivers stopped by the employees of the Traffic Police and the Main Department of Road Safety of the Ministry of Internal Affairs support the campaign and its goals.

"We often encounter violations from other drivers. This is wrong, as safety is the most important thing," said one participant.

Another participant noted that the received collection of traffic rules came just in time, as she was planning to refresh her knowledge.

"This is a great campaign. Thank you to the staff. We need to restore order on the roads, as many drivers do not follow the rules," she added.

"Each of us is a participant in road traffic until we reach point A to point B. The Traffic Police and the Main Department of Road Safety of the Ministry of Internal Affairs urge everyone to follow the traffic rules, as this is a matter not only of fines but also of life," noted Nadyrbek Jusupov, representative of the press service of the Traffic Police of the Main Department of Internal Affairs.
